Wii System Menu 4.0

Bet you weren’t expecting this one were you? In fact, I don’t think many people were.
However, the CEO of Big N himself (Satoru Iwata) went on stage this morning to introduce us to the 4th major revision to the Wii System Menu we all know and love. Although some features are gladly welcomed and well deserved, we can’t help but feel there is something else behind this update that Nintendo hasn’t told us. This is the known feature list so far:
- The Wii console can now use SDHC (SD High Capacity) Cards with a maximum of 32GB of storage.
- The SD Card Menu, which allows you to launch titles directly from an SD or SDHC Card, is added to the Wii menu.
- The Wii Shop Channel will now allow you to download titles directly to an SD or SDHC Card.
- The Wii console’s Data Management menu has been enhanced to make it easier to copy and move stored items on an SD Card or the Wii console’s system memory.
- The Wii User Agreement, which includes the Wii Privacy Policy, has been updated. Because the updated agreement applies to you and your use of the Wii Network Service, you should view the updated version by clicking on the Wii icon located on the lower-left portion of the Wii Channel menu, selecting Wii Settings, accessing the Internet setting, and selecting User Agreements.
- There are other behind-the-scenes enhancements to the Wii console system menu included with Wii Menu 4.0
There have also been changes to certain IOS’s, which are believed to attempt to bar out any hacking attempts. So far, we know that the Twilight Hack can NOT be copied from the SD Card, and DVDX does not work. However, if you have the Homebrew Channel and upgrade to 4.0, you will not lose it’s functionality. However, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT UPDATING YOUR WII FOR THE TIME BEING!!!
In a double whammy, HackMii developer wraggster has posted a quick rundown/review of 4.0 from a technical standpoint:
Nintendo, as expected, half-assed the SD feature by just automating the copy to NAND. No surprise there.
The IOS16 that warez users used to pirate is no longer an option, thank goodness.
HBC survives. So does DVDX.
They fixed the bug that the HBC installer and DVDX 3.4 installer use; time to bring out another one.
Twilight Hack no longer works. I’d like to remind everyone that this exploit has been in use for over a year. Whether it comes back or a new game exploit takes its place, I think we can say it’s served us all well.
No new problems expected with BootMii, other than needing a new exploit as mentioned above.
We will keep you up to date as we hear more information.

So what about backups? If you already have installed etc. SoftMii, will you still be able to boot your backups, after the update?
Goodbye Twilight hack!
If you already have the custom IOS installed and disc channel you can continue to load backups that way. You can’t load backups through disc channel and Ciosloader for now.
sorry, I meant backup loader the first time, not disc channel.
If you have cIOS + backup loader you will still be able to use them at 4.0 for now.
You can now use booting through disc channel currently.
THIS is an update!!!
When the hackers get the channels installed to work with the SD Menu…I will be VEEERRYY HAPPYY
This by far is the best update ever!!!!!!! Just install all your wads you want b4 updating. delete the ones u paid for so u have enough room for those you didn’t. then prior to updating make sure u got your hbc and your gamma working. after that. update and redownload your legit titles to your sd. I am also awaiting a wad manager for the sd channel.
Is it okay for me to update? I have the HBC, but no CIOS or anything else. I do have DVDX, though.
I wouldnt recommend updating at all.
3.2E is the one for me until 4.0 can be properly hacked.
Alternatively, if somebody could just rip the 32gb SDHC support and somehow incorporate that with 3.2, I think I’d stay with 3.2 forever hehehehe.
Well, I want to update it to 4.0, even if it means uninstalling the HBC and DVDX. But I don’t want to get banned from Wi-Fi either!
How the hell do you get banned from Wi-Fi? Never heard of anyone being banned from Nintendo Wi-Fi?
It’s right here :/

Dude im sorry buy i’ve played that game and more with softmii installed and before i installed it with loaders on Nintendo Wi-Fi and have NEVER been “banned” and if you read that post its like a 20% chance they MAY do it. But still haven’t seen hard evidence of them doing it or have done it.
Well the post is STILL there and I don’t want to take any chances.
been speaking to someone who has tested 4.0 with waninkoko new 4.0 updater and apperently homebrew and backups still work
So if they don’t get Twilight Hack working then what will come after? Galaxy Hack? Prime Hack? We just gotta wait and see.
Also they used 4.0 on these updates, but where the hell is my Internet Channel update dammit!!!!? >:(
So if i where to update to 4.0 could i use HBC to run Custom IOS Downgrader v1.1 to shot my framework back to 3.2U again or NO, because of the IOS16 fix Nintendo did?
