Thats right, firmware 3.4 (Updated 3.3) is now live for the Wii. We recommend that you DONT update to this firmware as some features could’ve been disabled.

3.4 Change Log:

* Wii Points will soon be called Nintendo Points, and all references as such will be updated. All other functionality with Nintendo Points will remain the same.
* The controller usage explanation screen will be updated.
* The controller usage explanation screen will be separated from the purchase screen. Along with this, the user will be prompted to confirm that they have any necessary accessories before being able to press the Purchase button.
* The design of the icons displayed will be updated.

Here are some UNCONFIRMED info

  • Installed WADS will still work as long as you dont use WAD manager (Channels will disappear)
  • Homebrew Channel still works but some apps wont
  • Modchips are NOT affected
  • Backup Loader still works
  • GeckoOS still works
  • You CANNOT install WADs after you update to 3.4
  • Region Changer will NOT work
  • Downgrader will NOT work

Is there a way to get 3.3u update only. I wanted to try to do a softmod to my brothers Wii with official old firmware and only bring it to 3.3u, I think I can update with Mario Kart official game correct? I believe it updates it to 3.3u No mod chips involved.

For now, avoid 3.4 @ all cost until a better softmod approach using (gamecube port) or some sort other boot bypass would be nice.

I’m enjoying 3.3u freedom so far.

I cant install homebrew anymore. for some odd reason I switched my wii from ntsc-u to ntsc-j and got the update. Now im mad now. my wii has been stuck in japanese for 2 months. Now I cant install homebrew now. I will get my wii fixed and switch mine from my brothers wii to do homebrew. I will just say my wii is making weird noises (which is true), have them fix it and switch it from my brothers wii. Why did Nintendo Do this???????
