Thats right… the Wiikey team did it and was able to make there chip come down to a a 5 to 6 wire install. A new install guide is also available.

After a thorough testing phase, we are pleased to confirm that Wiikey 2 can now be installed with just 6 wires on D2C, D2C-2 and D2E.
This applies to all Wiikey 2 chips with a yellow serial number
sticker on the back. Chips with a white serial number sticker should
be installed using 9 wires. The installation guide in the resources
section has been updated to reflect this.

Please note that there are no other differences between the
white-sticker and yellow-sticker chips. Both are Wiikey v2.0. Only
the wire-count has been changed for the chips with the yellow
sticker. DMS, D2B and D2B should still be installed with 5 wires.

It doesn’t seem possible, but popular opinion says otherwise! A video posted to YouTube a while ago shows how to achieve the exact functionality you get from the “SaveMii” device simply by using a GameCube controller. The instructions are simple: Get yourself a Gamecube controller, plug it into port 4, and hold down the Up, Left, Down, and Right (all 4) directional-pad buttons at the same time while turning on the system. As far fetched as it seems, the reaction has been quite positive:

I’ll be d… it really works!
The joystick is opened to eliminate the plastic dab that keeps you from pushing all directions at once.
Very nice find!

Nice, just tested and really working.

It’s working for me, sort of….

3rd party GCN controller - which allows all 4 d-pad buttons to be pressed at once… not sure if this is normal.

PAL Wii, 3.3E (the old 3.3), Wasabi v1 with 1.4fw. It seems to only work in port 4… and even then, when I put in a game I just get black screen. Wiimotes won’t sync, 3.3 (EUR) goes away.

I’ve tried other controller ports, and memory cards out, and leaving the dpad buttons pressed after putting in the disc but haven’t had any luck.

Try it out for yourself! The only problem seems to be pressing down on all 4 D-Pad buttons. As a closing note, here is the infamous YouTube video that started it all:

DPhone v1.0: iPhone on your DS

November 4th, 2008

Posted by nedthehead

The DS has a touchscreen, and so does the iPhone. That’s where the similarities end, unless you choose to pick up hillbilly’s new DS application: DPhone. DPhone is a shell that mimicks the iPhone’s interface, and also provides some pretty cool features:

Features to be implemented:
-Phone (Author of SvSIP contaced me…)
-Music Player
-Text Editor (Finish it)
-Settings (right hand - left hand setting)

Done Features:
-Customizable icons (Loading GIF’s)
-Maps
-File browser
-Calendar
-booting functionality
-Customizable main-screen BG
-Plays *.RAW files from the file browser.
-Plays *.SMF files (Spinal’s Movie format) from the file browser.
-GUI Clock courtesy of bug-fix by ThemePark.
-Multi-Touch support (MLlib) used in picture viewer.

Not too shabby, especially with the possibility of VOiP! We can only wait for future releases.

According to this Japanese coder, it has been!

A video was posted to YouTube a short while ago demonstrating a simple “Hello World” application running on a new DSi. As we know, the DSi does not recognize any of the previously existing flashcarts, but with this exploit, we might be able to run unsigned code.

The coder has not said much about the hack, and we only have a rough translation of what he has said:

He says that he borrowed his friends one and was able to perform the hack.
He didn’t say how he did it, but says that he did the the same way every thought it might be able to be done…
He also says something about not being sure if he wants to disclose how he did it due to a boom…

He says that the DSi’s are all sold out now in Japan. He wants to buy his own to do further testing to make sure the hack works on all DSi’s.

He mentions creating a custom firmware

There is still hope for the DSi hacking scene!

A report came in from the developers at HackMii recently that gave us a bit of an update on the next release of the Homebrew Channel. If you haven’t been following, Beta 9 was released a while back, but it was released prematurely in order to be compatible with Nintendo’s newest firmware. Where does that leave the state of this project?

As you all know, we’re getting busy with several other projects, and HBC isn’t a priority. However, the beta9 release had a few rough edges, and some things that should have been fixed weren’t.

So we’re giving you the chance to voice your pet peeves about HBC now, and we’ll release a new version soon. Consider this version “final” at least for the time being. HBC is basically feature-complete, so we won’t be adding any new major features, but we want to get rid of some remaining bugs and annoyances. Once this new version is out, you’re going to be stuck with it for a while.

Post a comment if you want something fixed. We reserve the right to fix whatever we want and ignore the rest, but at least we promise we’ll listen. Please read the comments before asking for something; we don’t want 20 people mentioning the same thing.

Guys, NO BIG NEW FEATURES. Don’t even think about integrating other apps, or adding disc loading, or anything like that. We’re talking about small fixes like honoring some setting or adding some minor controller support. Classic controller support is plausible. Fixing some graphical problem is doable. Integrating FTPii isn’t. Sound isn’t. I’m deleting totally implausible posts to keep things sane.

If you guys want your say in the next edition of the Homebrew Channel, follow our source link and post a comment on HackMii.

News submitted by Joe88

Reports are flying in this morning that the new DSi handheld is incapable of booting existing flash carts. Our friend ahtin at Hacken.cc who has got his hands on a brand new DSi, has tested both the popular R4 DS and EZ Flash V.

ahtin has reported that the R4 DS (an auto-booting slot-1 cart), when inserted into the DSi, in fact does NOT automatically boot up, and fails to appear at all in the new revamped DSi main menu (which is normal behaviour for an auto-booting cart). The EZ Flash V on the other hand (a non auto-booting slot-1 cart), does in fact show in the DSi’s main menu, but when launched generates an error which prevents it from loading any further.

Whether or not the new flash cart “prevention” on the DSi can be disabled or worked around is yet to be determined. Once more people get their hands on the new Nintendo handheld revision, we’ll undoubtedly learn more about why this is happening. Perhaps it could be something as simple as an update in the carts loader/firmware (at least in the case of the EZ-V), or perhaps something a modified firmware (ala. FlashMe) could fix. But of course, only time will tell.

Hacken.cc have not reported results on any other flash kits. Stay tuned to GBAtemp for any further news, as we’ll keep you posted on any developments.

UPDATE!: ahtin has informed me personally of his latest tests. Unfortunately it’s not good news! Just take a look at the long list of flash carts that have ALSO FAILED on the DSi…

CycloDS - Failed
G6 DS Real - Failed
M3 DS Real - Failed
Supercard DS One - Failed
iTouch DS - Failed
FCard - Failed
NCard - Failed
M3 DS Simply - Failed
U2DS - Failed

We love our classic and this is another for Wii homebrew. Kick it oldschool with Missile Command v0.6a and spend hours parrying those missiles with your own.

The only change from the previous version would be that the boot.dol was converted to boot.elf for compatibility with Homebrew Channel beta9. Enjoy
