No that’s not a typo. Nintendo busted out their third revision of the Nintendo DS, aptly named the DSi. In a Press Conference in Japan earlier today, many new features were revealed about the new DS:
About of the new DSi:
- No GBA Slot
- SD Slot
- Internal storage space
- Two built-in cameras (3MP & 0.3MP)
- Music player (seems like a built-in Play-Yan)
- Bigger screens
- Slightly thinner than the DS Lite
- Just ONE Touch Screen (Same as DS/Lite)
- Built in web browser
- “DS Ware” to be available for purchase (including free apps/games like the Apple App store)
- Will be available in Japan on November 1st for $179.99
- A new firmware and DS Channel/App interface
- Mii support on DS
This seems like a step in the right direction for Nintendo. They are trying to phase out GBA, while turning their premier handheld into a portable multimedia device. But the big question is: What does it look like? Luckily, we can also bring you screenshots:

We haven’t heard much as far as a change in hardware, but we can expect Nintendo to add some minor improvements to make the system run slightly faster, longer battery life… the usual for a revision. A note however, is that this DS is likely to render all current Flashcarts obsolete due to the DSi having a new firmware. We will know full on what this device is truly capable of at or around November 1st. Stay tuned for the latest developments!
sooo what are they goin 2 do bout the pokemon games on the ds?
Hrmph, my DS already supports SD cards (thanks to R4
as well as has a web browser and can play mp3s and videos. I think I got my old DS for like $150 and my R4 was around $20. So now lets spend the same price for a totally new system that does the same crap.
Capitalism is weird…
This is certainly an interesting development on the part of Nintendo. Many people will feel that this is a half upgrade… similar in perportion to the update of the 1000x series psp to 3000x series (or in some peoples view the TV out function of the 2000x). Its interesting they are adding a camera and music player support, suggesting that the proccessor has been upgraded signicantly. Nintendo didnt want to mess with a good thing, even though its time to upgrade to a new handheld… the success almost warrents the console to continue being sold. I wouldnt be surprised one bit if nintendo upped the graphics and storage (DS cart) potential a bit (and market special versions of games to go with DSi) to ride the train right up until the PSP’s replacement, sometime in the next decade. Internal 3MP camera… thats better than what the PSP’s got as an add-on accessory. Sadly, people will gobble this up…
It’s got a better camera than the iPhone. Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Owned, applefags!
The iphone has a 2mp camera.
I’ve read a newspaper article about the DSi to be released in tokyo later this year.

I’m sooooooooo getting that!!! And NES-Hacks will continue on the homebrew stuff with the DSi’s SD card slot…
I think the camera may be used in DSi exclusive games :O
F**king hell! Now that is a proper DS! Gimme, I want :Þ——
now for the real question…
what the heck does the “i” stand for?!
