Q: I got my Wii! What can I do with it?
A: Currently, modchip it and install Homebrew. You can modchip the Wii in order to have it play burned games, and use the Twilight Hack to install Homebrew. There are tutorials for both of these.
Q: Twilight Hack? What's that?
A: It's an exploit found in the Zelda: Twilight Princess game that allows the Wii to run unsigned code (Homebrew). In laymens terms, it works by crashing the system and booting up it's own line of code using the Zelda game structure.
Q: That's all good, but what can I do with my Wii?
A: At this point, quite a lot! With the official HomeBrew Channel, you can now run many applications from your SD card. Emulators, games, demos, and new applications are constantly in development.
Also, the Virtual Console has been hacked. This means you can download and play any game from the Wii shop Channel on your Wii for free! Only thing here is we can't tell you where to get the games from. We can tell you how to work and install them, but not where to get them, got it?
Alternatively, you can hard-mod your Wii, which basically means soldering a mod-chip to the motherboard. What are the advantages of this? Well, the main one is the ability to play backed-up (or burned) games on the Wii. Burn your downloaded Wii game to a DVD and run it!
Q: Mod...chip?
A: When your Wii boots up, it goes to a flash memory chip that stores... well, the Wii. Everything software about the Wii is on this chip. Now say you were to solder your own chip directly in front of that chip so that the signal will go to your chip instead of the official one. Essentially, "your own" chip is the modchip. You can then program it with a bunch of other things! Look to the tutorials section for everything modchip!
Q: So what is this "Virtual Console" you speak of?
A: The Virtual Console is somewhat of an emulator built into the Wii. It allows you to play games from older systems by downloading them through the Wii Shop Channel. Recently, this has been hacked to allow you to add games from an SD card. Keep in mind, this is not exactly an emulator though. While it does run old games, it can't run EVERY old game. Just the ones Nintendo has released in the Wii Shop Channel
Q: What are these Channels you keep talking about?
A: Channels are simply programs for the Wii. When you turn on your Wii, you're presented with a menu which contains the disc Channel, the Photo Channel, the news and weather channels etc. They are programs, but are referred to as channels because of the way the appear in the Wii's main menu.
Q: So when will __________________ be released?
A: Not many members of this forum are developers. Many things you want are in production, but bugging the people who make them won't get them released faster. Believe me, if you want something, someone else wants it too. The fastest way to get something done is to learn some code and try to create your own Wii Homebrew.

Q: That's all good, but what can I do with my Wii?
A: Sadly, not very much yet. Although we can run Homebrew, most of the applications are in there very early stages. There aren't that many "useful" applications released right now. As the scene grows bigger, you can be sure more advanced Homebrew will be developed. In addition, the Virtual Console has been hacked. There is more information on this in the tutorial section.
If you have a modchip however, you can use it to play "backed up" games on your Wii. In short, you could download a Wii game on your computer, write it to a DVD, and play that DVD on your Wii. Possesing backed up games is illeagal though.
Think the answer to this question needs updated, you can do a good bit now.

I know that giving links to pirated games are against the rules for legal reasons, but couldn't we make a post of some torrent sites and rank them for quality "for sharing homebrew of course"?

No because torrent sites host pirate films, software and games and you can't post any sites that deal with pirated gear. End of story.

They don't host the files only the trackers. the files are on user computers.
We use links to rapidshare, megauploads, etc. and they do host pirated files. so were is the real diff.

Yeah but we know what the file is and it's a direct link to the file and we try not advertise where the file is posted.

I'd prefer not to even mention any torrent sites. The legality is really on the fence with that one. I'll take a "better safe than sorry" attitude.
