So I bought a new 500GB HDD about 6 weeks ago and well it's filling up faster than I thought, I'm currently deleting and re-arranging all the stuff I have on my drives and it will look like this after I have finished.
150GB drive is for my windows installations partitioned as so Vista - 90GB, XP - 40GB, Ubuntu - 19GB.
115GB drive partitioned as so Music - 40GB, Backup - 40GB (mainly used to store all the PC Apps I use/used), PC Games - 35GB (I also use this one for PSP and DS roms).
The 500GB is used for films and TV shows, 10 seasons of Stargate SG1 and 4 of Atlantis takes up over 100 GB on it's own (I'm not even going to tell you how much space all the porn takes up
).
My 300GB is be used for all my Wii "stuff".
I'm wanting to buy a new 1TB HDD (I will probable remove both the 115GB and 300GB HDD as both are IDE and slow).
On to my question: Who here has a 1TB HDD and whats your opinion on a HDD this size?
If your wondering why i wrote a wall of text......... I'm bored ![]()

Well i would definitly switch over from the ide drives
its make some difference
and if you did a 1TB drive well
i filled my with music and movies the first week i had it
but you seem to have a plan

Put the 115 and 300gb in enclosures, when ever you can find them cheap. That is what i do with my IDE's. That way they don't slow down anything performance wise. You just turn them on when ever you need them, and shut them back down when you're done. Also that way they are less prone to dying because there are never uselessly spinning

Offline
Do you really need 1TB? As canUroll said, buy an enclosure for the 2 you have, and if you need more space, I've seen 750 GB external HDDs go for as little as $120 CDN (I think about 65 Euros). This would be good for all of your videos and backup, because it's not like you need to call on them all of the time/ And you WILL pay a premium for the extra 250GB to get a 1TB drive because the technology is still fairly new

Offline
WOW! $120 CDN is nearly 80 euros / £63 (the UK does not use euro's by the way), that expensive I can get a 1TB internal for just slightly more. I need way more space my 500GB and 300GB are nearly full.

I have a 1TB HDD and its very nice. its 7200 RPM Cache of 32mb. It does me well with what i use it for. I still have about 400GB left on it.

Offline
Yeah but if I remember right you burn all your movies to DVD, I don't they stay on my HDD unless I buy an original DVD or Bluray then I delete the file. It's great having a GFX card with a HDMI out put on it and a 50 inch plasma to hook it up to. ![]()

Offline
well i only burned a few for a movie night party now i dont burn them. they all stay on my HDD. i wish i had a 50in Plasma
.

Offline

My 50 inch plasma weighs about 50KG and me and my partner struggle to lift it on/off the TV stand (what idiot designs a large/heavy screen and doesn't put handhold on the back?)
Newer plasma screens do not need to be re-gased there good for 10 years and as long as it was a sexy leather clad female vampire that made mine I don't care ![]()
I have a small and cheap projector coming, it came free with WNG's new phone contract, I should have some fun with that ![]()

i like that TV in that link.
back lit LCDs are nice, like the PSP, it has a back lit screen.

Offline
@wakra: your right your not a liar....you just can't read, Dude that link is for a post thats nearly a year old and it says "LCD TV with L.E.D backlight" not L.E.D TV. Plus 70 inch screens don't generally get sold to the public and cost no where as near as much as $61,300 (normaly only half that price)
@KWG: All LCD screens need to be back lit because they do not produce there own light.

Seagate just released a 1.5GB internal HDD for only $180 i think.
Anyways... having a 1TB is great but make sure you get it at 7200RPM+ and 32mb Cache
