Taking care of your Wii and Prolonging its life - Guide

This Care guide is for the Nintendo Wii and was Written by me (Icecoolwas)

Intro

Everyone who has a Wii needs to take care of there Wii's to prolong its life. Not many people do this so I'm hoping I give some good advice and I might encourage a few people to do so XD.

Requirements -
- Wii
- Wii Sensor Bar
- Small Amount of Alcohol/Aftershave/Vinegar
- Microfiber cloth
- Some bleach
- Wii remote Jacket
- Wii Mote

Optional -
- Wii USB Fan (Only about £4 Max with postage on Ebay Uk)
- Wii Remote Charger stand (About £7 Approx With postage on Ebay Uk)
- DVD Lens cleaner Disk (You don't really need this, I would'nt worry about it yet)
- Any Controller type items E.g. Wii Wheel, Tennis racket etc.
- A little bit of Bleach

1. Disconnect your Wii and put it on a soft surface, E.g. Carpet or sofa
2. Get the Microfiber cloth and wipe any Visible dust, If there is any dirt or any glue like substance on your Wii that does not remove with a swipe put a little aftershave/Alcohol on the cloth and wipe area's gently until its gone then do the same on the Wii Stand.
3. Repeat Step 2 On the Wii Remote and any Wii Items like the Wii Wheel. Clean the Infrared Camera at the front to remove any dirt that could interfere with your game play, Also do this with your sensor bar do make sure your Wii Remote can clearly see the Wii Sensor bar so dirt can't Interfere.
4. Clean the tips of the Cables that connects the Wii to the TV, this Might Improve the quality abit (Probably unnoticeable but I'd do it anyway)
5. Clean the Wii remote Jacket while its not on the Wii remote, you could wash it and then dry it off with a towel or something, then put it back on the Wii mote.
6. Take the Wii Remote straps of and put them into the bleach, you only need little and mix it with some water, get a stick or something and move the strap around you will see how clean and white the Wii strap will turn within a minute, not to mention all the germs from your sweat it will kill, once done take it out with gloves and get a cloth and hold it tight on the strap and pull the cloth down, repeat this for 30 secs and then wash with plain water, repeat drenching the water out of the strap and then let it air dry.
7. Get a Wii Remote charging dock, It will save you loads of money! No more replacing batteries.
8. Get the Wii USB Fan (If you get the right one you can plug the Remote charger dock into it) It will dramatically Improve the performance of your Wii's CPU Chip (Cooler the processor the faster it is) not to mention it will prolong the life of your Wii.
9. Skip this If you can/have done Step 8 otherwise keep your Wii in a ventilated place, no matter how much dust there is in your house do not put your Wii in a cupboard or draw, this is just asking for Overheating problems, In fact even if you have a USB Inter cooler I wouldn't recommend you put your Wii into a draw or some sort.
10. I'm not sure if the Wii's Disk drive Will actually read the lens cleaning bit on the disk but I would do it anyway, It would clean the dirt of the lens to allow faster and better quality disk reading, If you don't think it works, I guess we should wait for a Homebrew DVD player which would make it work correctly.
11. From now on do not leave your Wii on, Either put it on standby (Orange light, Still gives power to the USB ports for the cooling and Remote charging system) or turn it completely off to the red light. Tip: If you take it completely off, disable Wiiconnect24 then you can turn your Wii to the red light from the Wii remote.
12. Do this cleanup every 4 months at least.

Remember, You will save money on batteries, Your Wii will Perform better at a cooler temperature, your Wii will be shiny and most importantly your Wii will last longer. Imagine you got a brand new car, You never washed it, You didn't change the engine oil, you drove your car for 8 hours a day at 90mph average, you never put water in the engine. your Basically asking for trouble. If you treat your car with respect, it will respect you and live longer, the Wii is like that.

Note: I am not responsible for any dumb acts you do, E.g. Spill a alcohol can on your Wii, that is your fault Use your brain, If you follow this guide correctly you won't have done anything wrong you would in fact have done something good for your Wii.

This guide was written by Icecoolwas, If you see this guide anywhere else please Inform me, I didn't spend 20-30mins typing for some Leecher, Unless they don't remove the credits.

Re: Taking care of your Wii and Prolonging its life - Guide

No problem, I can say my wii looks shiny, even though its hard for the wii to actually be shiny its just a dust collector I suppose,  I've actually done everything on the list myself well apart from using a dvd lens cleaner. I've already ordered a Wii fan and charger dock for it, I've spent at least £30 on batteries maybe more so the dock will be something im going to need.
