NES-Hacks: Your home for Wii and DS Hacking!

So, how can you have a Twilight Princess file, multiple homebrew, and a separate Wii channel for homebrew? Can't be done, right?

Wrong!

The purpose of this guide will be to install a Homebrew channel on your Wii menu so you don't need to boot Twilight Princess in order to access your homebrew.
WARNING: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR WII!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

That out of the way, this is what you'll need:
1 Wii (obviously)
1 SD card (and a way to connect it to your computer)
1 copy of Zelda Twilight Princess
+ necessary install files. For the purpose of this guide, I've uploaded
all of the necessary files at this location:

Step 1: Twilight Hack
This step is necessary in order to install the Homebrew channel on your Wii menu. This is not necessary afterwards, and is completely temporary. For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be referring to the RZDE folder. You will use the RZDE, RZDP, or RZDJ folder depending on your region.

1: Considering you've downloaded my file linked above, open the Step 1 folder and read through the .txt file in that folder. It will help tell you what file will work with your version of Twilight Princess. So take that version of data.bin to use for the rest of this tutorial.
Make sure you use the right folder though! In the Step 1 folder, I have included the files for 3.3 and 3.4 Firmware. To make things easier, delete the folder that you WONT be using. This will unclutter everything.

(The 3.3 files WILL NOT work on 3.4, and vice versa, although the installation process is the same)

2: This might be a good time to back up your Twilight Princess save data if you intend to keep it. In fact, it's MUCH better if you do so. The savedata will go into the X:/private/wii/title/RZDE folder. If you don't have any data you want to save, create the X:/private/wii/title/RZDE folder on your SD Card. Now, if you backed up your RZDE folder, rename it to  something like RZDEBackup so you don't get confused. At this step, you should have 2 folders in your X:/private/wii/title folder: RZDEBackup (Savedata) and RZDE (used for Twilight Hack)

(Quick Note: In order to back up data, insert your SD Card into the Wii, go to your Zelda save game file on your Wii System Memory and click it. Once you hit copy, it will copy over to the SD Card you inserted)

3. Remember the file data.bin? Well, copy that to the RZDE folder you made. Your memory stick is now ready for the Twilight Hack!

4 Now, insert the SD Card into the Wii. Now go to your Wii options and navigate your Wii's system memory. In the top right corner, hit SD Card. If you followed steps correctly, there should be an icon on your SD card
called "Homebrew Loader" or something along those lines. Now click your Wii memory in the top right, and delete your previous Zelda data (if applicable). If you backed it up in step 2, it is in the RZDEBackup folder on your memory stick. Now go to the SD Card, and click on the loader. When prompted, copy it to the Wii system memory.

You've now successfully installed the Twilight Hack!

5 (Optional but recommended): Test out the Twilight Hack! Put in your game disc and load up a game of Zelda as usual. There is only 1 file on the file select screen, so hit that one. When the file loads up, go speak to the man in front of you. If all goes well, the game should crash and some code appear on the screen. If so, all is successful! If not, then review your steps.

Step 2: Homebrew Channel
This is a simple, yet very crucial step. This step will place a channel on your Wii system menu to launch homebrew! Why is this important? Well, if you want convenience, and to keep a Twilight Princess file, then this is for you!

1. This is a very simple process! Take your SD Card, and plug it into your computer.

2. Open the "Step 2 Homebrew Channel" folder in the package you downloaded.

3. Take the boot.dol from this folder and copy it to the root of your SD Card. Now you're pretty much done!

4. Boot up Zelda and talk to the guy again. This time, a new line of code will appear. Wait for the code to completely load, then read the disclaimer. Once finished, press the "Reset" button (press, don't hold) on the front of your Wii console. After a quick install, your Wii will automatically restart. Press A, and notice a new channel in your Wii Menu. It's all black, but if you let your cursor hover over it, it shows up as the "Homebrew Channel". SUCCESS! However, don't access it yet. We still have one more crucial thing to do!

Step 3: Adding Applications
So you've got the new Homebrew Channel all up and running. What do you do from here? The correct answer is to add applications! For this tutorial, I've included some applications already. They all follow a specific format of what to do with them when adding them, so for this section, I'm going to tell you how you take your file. and make it recognizable by the Homebrew Channel.

1: You need the .dol file that you want to add.
Put the "Apps" folder on the root of your SD Card.

2: For every application you want to add, make a folder in the apps folder. Give it an appropriate name.

3: Put the .dol into the new folder you just created.

4: If you want a picture for the application, it must be 128 x 48 pixels

5: For all channel information, you must enter it into a meta.xml file. To do this, make a notepad file named meta.txt, and paste this template into it:

With this, just change everything between the two arrows. (><) So since you don't want your application named Wii64, change that to whatever you want. Once you've made the necessary changes, rename meta.txt to meta.xml. Make sure it is in the folder with your .elf/.dol

Step 3.5: Restoring your Twilight Princess data
Huh? We're not finished?
No, we are, but for those who had Twilight Princess data that they saved earlier, this is a quick rundown of how to restore it to as it was before we installed the Twilight Hack.

1: Insert your SD Card into the computer again. Navigate to your X:/private/wii/title/ folder. Here you are presented with the folders we created earlier for the Twilight Hack: RZDE, and RZDEBackup

2: Delete the RZDE folder. We won't be needing it anymore. Now you can rename your RZDEBackup folder to simply RZDE

3: Now plug the SD Card into your Wii. Go to Wii options, Data Management, and then into your Wii System Memory. Now see the WiiBrew loader saved on your Wii memory? It's safe to delete that, so go ahead and do so. Now go to your SD card (top right corner) and click on your Zelda file which will appear in the first block. Click it, hit copy, and it will copy right back onto the Wii System Memory. You can then delete it from the SD Card.


And that's it! You can now run Homebrew from your Wii Menu, and have a perfectly good Zelda file at the same time!
