How to find out which version your Wii is

http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php      (OUTDATED)
http://www.wiidrives.com/list    (NEW LIST)

This site will help you find out which version you have

GC2-DMS = First Generation (Compatible with All Modchips excluding D2CKey, D2Pro, and Argon)
GC2R-D2A = Second Generation (Compatible with All Modchips excluding D2CKey, D2Pro and Argon)
http://gbx.ru/files/Images/Wii/chipsets.jpg
C2-D2B = Third Generation (Compatible with All Modchips excluding D2CKey, D2Pro and Argon)

Late models of C2-D2B have pins that are cut. You must reattach the legs, drummel the chip and connect to the legs, or use alternate points.  I strongly recommend you leave that to a professional if you dont have good soldering skills, or you can get the Wasabi chip that works perfect for it without reattaching the legs

GC2-D2C = Fourth Generation (Only Compatible with Argon, D2CKey, D2PRO, Wasabi, Wiikey2 And INFECTUS2)
http://www.xavboxwii.com/photos/chipset/b-d2bc-chip.jpg

D2C compared to D2C2  = Fifth Generation (Only Compatible with Argon, D2CKey, D2PRO, Wasabi, Wiikey2 And INFECTUS2)

D2E = Sixth Generation (Only Compatible with Argon, D2CKey, D2PRO, Wasabi, Wiikey2 And INFECTUS2)
http://www.maxconsole.net/content_img/d2wi.jpg

Some D2E drives now even come with Epoxy to prevent modding.

"There is a 50% chance that your drive chip is a GC2-D2C

There is a 50% chance that the pins on your drive chip are not cut."

This is my friend's result, what does he do?

Re: How to find out which version your Wii is

get the D2Pro9 which is compatible with ALL drivesets currently. Just get the wiiclip, clips right on and done smile

the clip for the D2Pro9 is V4C. We recently found the trick for D2B and below but since his is a D2C, no soldering is required

Re: How to find out which version your Wii is

wiiclips are usually no more than 25 US dollars. Ive bought a few and tested them on a few family members. Each was totaled up to about 87 US dollars with the D2Pro9, v4c wiiclip, and it soldered onto the clip.

Re: How to find out which version your Wii is

seems to be a little dated. Missing D2C,D2C2,D2E and now the GC2-D3.
