It looks like the Wii's rather limited storage capacity isn't just a problem for "geeks and otaku" anymore. Talking to MTV multiplayer, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime stated that the company is now seeing it as a more mainstream problem:
From an Americas-centric perspective, here is the reality we see. We have a consumer base who loves virtual console. We have a userbase who really is enjoying WiiWare content. So for us really our challenge really is how do we satisfy all these consumers who are loving all of the product we make available on a download basis?
As we continue to have things, as you point out, like Mario Kart that has its own channel when you’re playing from an Internet perspective, we’re just making this challenge tougher and tougher. So in our view this is becoming much more of a mainstream problem, which is why we have a sense of urgency to solve it.
Apart from assuring Wii owners that Nintendo is "looking hard at the storage situation", Fils-Aime didn't give any specific ideas on how they'll tackle the Wii's storage problems. Of course, it would probably be easy enough to roll out a firmware update that allows the Wii to access files on a USB storage device, but taking Nintendo's views on piracy into account along with the current surge of Wii homebrew, it may take a while until we see anything concrete.

hmm let me think on how to respond this.
Hmmm
well... hmmm
Thinking hard
NO [CENSORED] S*** NINTENDO...... its about time, they start taking the lack of space more serious. Its not just a problem for "nerds" its a problem for anyone that uses the wii, and i think a FREE solution should be made. Or a cheap one anyway, because the ps3 and xbox360 already had hdd, so nintendo's fault for not giving us one, So i thikn they should fix it for free, or as cheap as possible. Not expect us as the consumers to fork out MORE money, we already buy all the stupid controls and S***, i think a hdd would be a nice way to say thank you for sticking by them

no matter what. People will fork out money because its Nintendo... i would love it if they added something for us but i really wouldn't expect it to be free or cheap.

I think whatever they do to make it safe against piracy won't hold long..
they just need to do it save so not just EVERY1 can use the usb-device of some1 else to play his vc-games.
whatever they do i just hope they are fast ;D

i honestly dont see the reason for more memory. they built it for savefiles and extra contents, also they didnt expect people to have tons of VC games on their Wii's. The reason why so many people are complaining about space now is because they've pirated so many VC/WiiWare games and its running out of space

I had mem filled with vc that was purchased, game saves, and hbc's. and more mem would keep me from having to delete and re-download games so often. more storage would also allow for dlc for GH, rock band, and other titles that supports dlc.
not everyone with full mem is a pirate.

you really dont need to do that. you could copy the channel over to the SD card and recopy them back when you need them

Knowing Nintendo, they will release something stupid like a USB Drive... the catch is that the Wii will only be able to read from this special stick. I just think big N is plAying the publicity card at this point

re-downloading or copying from sd both get a bit annoying at times. would much rather have them on the wii all the time.
