Do NOT, i repeat, DO NOT update using a game from a different Region of yours.
A good example would be PAL Mario Kart Wii (3.2E).
If your Wii is at firmware 3.0U (USA) and you update from the PAL version of the game.
It will update your Wii and semi-brick your wii until a future update is available on a game of YOUR region.
Best way to avoid it?
Update your Wii to the latest firmware using the update feature on your Wii
or
Brickblock your Games from other regions if it works.
or
Use GeckoOS to run games from other regions
or
Use games from your own region
*******************PLEASE READ****************************
Keep in mind that since Wii firmware 3.3 and above, breaks homebrew apps and other stuff, we do urge people to NOT update their Wii over 3.2.

Simply put just stay with your own region of game. Make life easier for yourself.

well, no matter how much you tell people, they will still do what they want. Putting this out there will give them heads up.

Best way to prevent it:
1: USe games from your own region
2: Before playing a new game, always go to the Wii Options and download the newest System update yourself. If you don't have internet access, this is more dodgy...

i lately read something about VC-games bricking (or semi-bricking) a wii, but i don't remember why... it wasn't the region i think...
Offline
VC games cant cause bricks because theres no updating involved... if you install a diffrent region VC game onto your Wii.. it just wont play.. wont brick.. the only thing i can think of is overinstalling your VC games with minimal block spaces... but that can be fixed with an easy format or manually deleting games for space

Oh yeah exactly i just read it here again... from that fanboy guy...
he said he installed 4xx MB of VC's or something until he could not enter the menu...
Thx ^^

Wh......fanboy guy? Actual managed to install 503MB of VC games (all working) just to see how much you could install.

Offline
Sorry xD
The Wii Nes Boy.. guy
503 MB VC games? wtf...
isn't the whole memory 512 MB and like 128mb go off for Firmware, Saves, config and stuff?
nice nice ;D

That's what a lot of people think but apparently not. The wirmware doesn't take up a lot of space and the save files are tiny

Offline
Yeah i don't think that the firmware and saves are that big, i just thought 128 MB are RESERVED to those, so that you still can save when you got a lot of VC's installed....
Too bad the space is so little... would like at least 1024 mb ;(

like i tell all of our members here... why would be need more space? Wiiware & N64 games should be the only thing you need to install.. the remaining games should be played on emulators.. Its not like you will play ALL of the games you install on the system

Don't think it's ever been confirmed by the big N We don't really need a lot of internal space, most homebrew can run straight off the sd card now, so 512MB is fine.

Yeah, thats what i do...
Emus for all the games (except wiiware, n64) on 2GB SD card.
some really good n64 games will get installed per VC, also the wiiware stuff...
and you are probably right. 512 is enough when you really only install what you play often.

What does PAL stand for? Is it some type of Region? And if you're in the USA you're suppose to us NTSC, correct?
