UPDATE: Seems as if the same people who leaked Waninkoko’s last project have managed to leak this one too. No names, and please do not disrespect that particular community, but after the last fiasco, I find it really disrespectful. So out of respect, please DO NOT POST LINKS TO THE LOADER!! Waninkoko has yet to respond on the issue.

(Thanks to NES-Hacks former admin KinG-Td for the tip)

Well, you can’t.

Not yet at least. Waninkoko has been making a lot of news this week, along with most of the Wii community. However, this has nothing to do with System menu 4.0. Instead, this is a completely new hack meant to revolutionize the current methods of backup loading!

Waninkoko’s premise is simple: instead of using the DVD Drive to run games, why not load all games to a USB Device, which you can attach to your Wii?

By this time, you are saying, “Prove it! Show me the Source!”. So what better way to demonstrate the application than the video straight from the horses mouth?

Not only that, but if you watch the video, near the end, it appears that Waninkoko rips a DVD straight to the USB device.

Now, the only information we have on this video (thus, itself being our Source) is contained within the video, so we have no idea of a timeframe for release. However, rest assured we will definitely keep you updated!

Alright, for all of you out there who haven’t updated their Wii and want to enjoy their sweet Homebrew but also want to enjoy some of those cool features from Fw 4.0. Well you guys are in luck. Waninkok has released an updater that will install only the necessary parts of the firmware while still retaining the functionality of older firmwares. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Though, there is a catch. As you all should know there is that chance of brickage and there is no guarantee that it’s will be compatible with future updates. Also be aware that that this still WILL NOT ALLOW you to use preloader, Starfall, cIOSCORP, or the various softmod packages available (That means no softmii also). They are dead as of this firmware update. Just wait hopefully there will be an update for those apps.

If you are currently using a softmod this is strongly not recommended for you.

[ DESCRIPTION ]:

- This application allows you to update your console’s firmware installing only the needed applications (IOS, System Menu, channels…).

Thanks to it you can keep some features like Trucha bug that affected first IOS versions.

[ REQUISITES ]:

- 150-250 free blocks.
- Internet connection.

[ HOW TO USE ]:

- Run the application with any method to load homebrew and the update will be done automatically.

Wii System Menu 4.0

March 25th, 2009

Posted by nedthehead

Bet you weren’t expecting this one were you? In fact, I don’t think many people were.

However, the CEO of Big N himself (Satoru Iwata) went on stage this morning to introduce us to the 4th major revision to the Wii System Menu we all know and love. Although some features are gladly welcomed and well deserved, we can’t help but feel there is something else behind this update that Nintendo hasn’t told us. This is the known feature list so far:

  • The Wii console can now use SDHC (SD High Capacity) Cards with a maximum of 32GB of storage.
  • The SD Card Menu, which allows you to launch titles directly from an SD or SDHC Card, is added to the Wii menu.
  • The Wii Shop Channel will now allow you to download titles directly to an SD or SDHC Card.
  • The Wii console’s Data Management menu has been enhanced to make it easier to copy and move stored items on an SD Card or the Wii console’s system memory.
  • The Wii User Agreement, which includes the Wii Privacy Policy, has been updated. Because the updated agreement applies to you and your use of the Wii Network Service, you should view the updated version by clicking on the Wii icon located on the lower-left portion of the Wii Channel menu, selecting Wii Settings, accessing the Internet setting, and selecting User Agreements.
  • There are other behind-the-scenes enhancements to the Wii console system menu included with Wii Menu 4.0

There have also been changes to certain IOS’s, which are believed to attempt to bar out any hacking attempts. So far, we know that the Twilight Hack can NOT be copied from the SD Card, and DVDX does not work. However, if you have the Homebrew Channel and upgrade to 4.0, you will not lose it’s functionality. However, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT UPDATING YOUR WII FOR THE TIME BEING!!!

In a double whammy, HackMii developer wraggster has posted a quick rundown/review of 4.0 from a technical standpoint:

Nintendo, as expected, half-assed the SD feature by just automating the copy to NAND. No surprise there.
The IOS16 that warez users used to pirate is no longer an option, thank goodness.
HBC survives. So does DVDX.
They fixed the bug that the HBC installer and DVDX 3.4 installer use; time to bring out another one.
Twilight Hack no longer works. I’d like to remind everyone that this exploit has been in use for over a year. Whether it comes back or a new game exploit takes its place, I think we can say it’s served us all well.
No new problems expected with BootMii, other than needing a new exploit as mentioned above.

We will keep you up to date as we hear more information.

According to some rumours, the boys at Big N have taken a page out of Microsoft’s books.

The story goes something like this: some people were playing Mario Kart online and having fun, when all of a sudden, they were kicked out, and they received a message from Nintendo saying that they were banned from Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection because they were found to have the Homebrew Channel installed on their Wii.

If this sounds a bit fishy to you, you are thinking on the same path as HackMii developer Marcan, who had this to say:

There is very little information regarding the claimed issue. However, considering HBC is not a prerequisite for Mario Kart online cheating, nor does it have any direct relationship with it, and especially considering the ease with which we could change HBC’s Title ID, I think it’d be incredibly foolish for Nintendo to do this. They aren’t the brightest of the lot, but they’re not that stupid.

I have succeeded in playing a perfectly normal WFC match on-line with Mario Kart while HBC (1.0.1) was installed. There was no sign of trouble or errors at all.

Unless we get multiple, verifiable reports of people who have never cheated at Mario Kart or performed any modifications whatsoever, and who do not have and have never had any other installable homebrew other than HBC and no other modifications (that means no region changes, no downgrades, no IOS16, no cIOS, no warez launchers, and no other unofficial channels), no modchip, and a legit, in-region copy of Mario Kart, I am forced to conclude that whoever made this claim hasn’t done their research properly.

This sounds reasonable. The fact of the matter is that the reported cases have not been confirmed by anyone, and could be seen as completely false. However, take this message as a “heads-up” in that Nintendo may have something else in store for the Homebrew Community.

AnyTitle Deleter DB v1.03

March 22nd, 2009

Posted by nedthehead

Quick, someone name me which channel corresponds to 00000000.app.

If you got that one wrong, you might want to look into MrClick’s AnyTitle Deleter DB. Based off of Red Squirrel’s AnyTitle Deleter, not only will this program delete any channel from your Wii without leaving a trace, but it will also tell you the name of the channel that you are deleting. This would be useful for those who don’t want to make a mistake and say, delete their Disc Channel…

1.0 v3

  • title names can now be read from 00000000.app files found in many (but not all) channels
  • the Wii is brought into “super user” mode when reading 00000000.app files
  • likewise “system menu” mode is used to read banner.bin files
  • updated the ES identification to the one from tona’s AnyRegion Changer
  • removed the “Directory” naming mode since it was buggy and quite useless
  • minor corrections in menu code

Posted by nedthehead

Whether you have mutliple Commodore 64 “Home Computers” lying around or not, you can put your applications to use by installing Simon Kagstrom’s Commdore 64 Emulator: Frodo. Not only has the release added extra peripheral support, but things are looking bright for the future:

v8

  • The Nunchuk and Classic analogue controllers now work as joysticks as well (thanks to Aaron Morris)
  • Some key binding problems have been corrected
  • Lots of networking implementation. Won’t work yet…

Networking implementation? Yes please!
