Mario Paint Composer

September 29th, 2008

Posted by nedthehead

Anyone who has played Mario Paint for SNES has had some fun with the music composition tool, and many people have even produced professional songs on it… well, maybe reproduced them, but nevertheless, it was an awesome way to get some cool sounds and write some tracks.

Jump forward in the future now and we have Mario Paint Composer for the DS. It works in exactly the same way as the original does:

Mario Paint Composer DS is an adaptation of the music composer tool found in the Super Nintendo game “Mario Paint” with a few new adaptations which I added in from the PC version created by unFun Games (http://www.unfungames.com/). Please note, I am not responsible for the pc version, these two programs merely share the same name and that is all. This is not a direct port of any version, it is completely coded by myself.

Features: These are new features continueing from the ones already in the snes version

-Saving and Loading of songs
-Sharp and Flat notes
-more lower ranged notes
-4 new note types
-4 notes per can be played at once rather then the 3 limit
-Longer songs

You loved Gecko OS as a channel, and I’m sure those of you who have tried out the Backup loader were pleased with it’s progress, if not the actual BETA product. So where do we go from here? We combine both of those into the ultimate channel for playing backups on Wiis… unmodded Wiis of course.

What you need to know:

*Bugs Fixed
-all NTSC issues
-some desyncronization in audio
-games load faster
-more compatibilty

*New things added
-Support for Gecko OS 1.6
-Ocarina Wii cheat app support

As with our policy at NES-Hacks, the channel itself will not be hosted on this site. However, more documentation and links to the channel itself can be found by clikcing on the Source link.

Thanks for the tip goes to forum member Bluecrush204.

SaveMii Released and for Sale

September 25th, 2008

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

News submitted by krazywhiteguy310

The official website for the Wii Recovery dongle, SaveMii, has opened. They appear to already be for sale for $30USD.

So your Wii is bricked

When powered on, your Wii displays nothing but an error message, or nothing at all? We may have just the solution for your problem. There’s a good chance a nifty little piece of hardware can allow you to fix your system. We call it SaveMii.

Most “bricks” are the result of poor error checking or bugs in the Wii’s System Menu. For example, if you have installed a system update off a wrong region’s disk, the System Menu will only display an “Opera” error message and halt without running disks anymore. SaveMii will let you break out of this condition.

SaveMii allows to skip most of the System Menu startup process, especially the part that fails and halts the boot process. Instead, it causes the Wii to directly run software off a disk. Depending on the Wii’s system version, and whether your Wii has a modchip installed, this allows you to either run a system update off a legit Wii disk, or a custom-made disk containing updates or homebrew tools.

Get to know the system startup process and see if SaveMii can help you with your problem. SaveMii is available right now, we are happy to take your order.

Introducing SaveMii
http://savemii.net/images/savemii_photo.jpg

SaveMii is a small dongle that is plugged into a Wii’s Gamecube memory card slot. It mimicks a test interface that is believed to be used in Nintendo’s own facilities (dubbed “Waikiki” by Nintendo).

When the System Menu is started and such a device is found, much of the System Menu’s code is skipped. Instead, the System Menu checks the validity of the disk, runs an update from the inserted disk if present, and then tries to start a diagnostic – also known “autoboot” – disk.

This will allow updates from legit Wii disks to fix the system data. Or, if the Wii’s system hasn’t

GeckoOS 1.07b

September 25th, 2008

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

News submitted by krazywhiteguy310

Update from the previous of the Gecko OS.

Whats new:

1. No copy flag bit in saves now removed when copying no copy flag save games.

In previous version you could copy no copy saves but it left the no copy flag bit in the save so unless you used a Hex editor you couldn’t copy the save game back to your Wii. Now this bit is removed when you copy the save over. Thanks Kenobi for this patch.

You need the rebooter to copy no copy saves to SD card, but of course you can copy them back without rebooter loaded just like any other standard save.

Many thanks,
Nuke

It wasn’t the leak what pissed me off the most, but all the people downloading it, sharing it, making tutorials, and such. I recognize that 50% of that is my fault and… i think i’m gonna reconsider the cancelation (well, the bit about making it public because canceled it’s not XD).

?Then you’re coming back to the project?

If you read carefully, it is stated that the project is not canceled, but he is thinking he is gonna make it public when he finishes it.

Looks like Waninkoko is reconsidering the ISO Loader project… Whether its going to be kept behind closed doors or not… We are unsure…

Snes9x GX 005

September 23rd, 2008

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

SNES9xGX 005 have been released to the wild… cheat support, super scope, mouse support, DVD support…. could it get any better? Thanks Tantric, michniewski, and Tehskeen for the news..

Tantric and I (michniewski) are proud to present a new version of Snes9xGX. This release is especially significant because the core has been updated to Snes9x 1.51, which should make many games work, and it fixed many annoying issues. You can see the full changelog here: http://snes9x.ipherswipsite.com/ Special thanks to the snes9x team.

The menu layout has changed since 004, and many items have been moved around. Hopefully this layout makes more sense.
Preferences are saved in an xml file so they can be edited easily. You can also load and save over SMB on the wii now – and thanks to the preferences, all that you need to do is set up a SMB share, and update the settings in the Snes9xGX xml preferences file.

Superscope, Mouse, and Justifier support has been added in this release, controllable with the GC controller, classic controller, or wiimote.

Cheats have been enabled. Put .cht files with the same filename as your ROM in the snes9x/cheats folder and enable/disable them via the menu.

Thanks to libdi, you should be able to load DVDs in wii mode. Make sure you have DVDX installed. See http://hackmii.com/ for more info.

Finally, you can now choose between 3 render modes: Filtered, Unfiltered, and Original. Original and Unfiltered offer sharper graphics – modelled to give an output as close to a SNES as possible. Using unfiltered or original modes is recommended. (original only available on non-component video cable setups)

See the readme for full changelog and more information.

Known Issues
- The mouse can be a little funky. The cursor doesn’t update correctly.

Installation
Wii:
Copy over the contents of the apps/Snes9xGX/ directory over to your SD card (to run it from the Homebrew Channel)
GC:
Load the gc dol in the executables directory.

SaveMii – A Wii Recovery Dongle

September 22nd, 2008

Remember that video that was found on youtube a few weeks ago? It was a recovery dongle that fixes bricked Wiis

Well, here is the full proof of the item

marcan wrote:

Some specifics on what kinds of bricks this might fix (we have not tested all of these yet):

- If you can autoboot ANY disc and your problem is not a bad system menu (that is, reinstalling the system menu won’t fix it) then this probably won’t help. If your problem can be fixed (which it probably can), you won’t need this at all.

- This SHOULD let you fix the worst banner bricks (where you screw up the main arc and get a freeze on the warning screen, not after it), but ONLY if you have 3.2 or earlier, or 3.3 and the Twilight Hack (beta1) already installed, and in both cases you’ll need a modchip.

- This SHOULD let you fix any semibricks-turned-bricks (Opera 404 error on boot) but you’ll have to wait until a retail game comes out with a newer version if you don’t have a modchip or if you have 3.3 or newer.

- In general, IF you can see anything on the screen, AND you have a system menu earlier than 3.3, AND your system menu main binary (dol) and IOS are (mostly) fine (system menu data corruption is okay), AND you have a modchip, AND your hardware is fine, THEN you can probably fix it with this.
