Disclaimer: There is risk of bricking your wii. We take no responsibility for any damage done, frustration experienced, or tears shed. Just remember: You’re the one trying to hack your Wii. You assume all responsibility.

Today we’ll be covering the online softmod method, which requires the Wii to have internet connectivity. This method is a lot faster, and easier than the offline method. Definitely recommended for absolute beginners.

After covering the basics in my last tutorial, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. As always, I’ll have you start with an empty SD card, for the sake of simplicity.

Getting Started:

Download and extract the contents of THIS .ZIP FILE to your SD card.

-Put SD card into the Wii and turn it on.

-Start “The Homebrew Channel”

Load “Trucha Bug Restorer”:

-Press B to continue without IOS reload.

-After about 10-15 seconds, you’ll see “Press 1 to start application”, pretty straightforward.

-Select “Downgrade IOS15″

-You will be prompted with the default <Load IOS from SD card>. use the left or right buttons on the D-pad to select “<Download IOS from NUS>”.  You will have to repeat this action several times throughout the online method of this Tutorial.

-Press A for step 1->A again for step 2.  Finally, press any button to exit the application.

Load “Trucha Bug restorer” again:

-This time, Select IOS15 and press A, then hit 1 to start the application when it tells you to.

-Select “IOS36 menu”, Leave IOS at 36, make sure the next 3 settings are at “Yes”. Like this:

Install IOS to Slot: 36
patch hash check (trucha): YES
patch ES_Identify: YES
patch nand permissions: YES

-Select “Install to IOS36″->”Download IOS from NUS”->A to install, then any button to exit again.

Load “Trucha Bug Restorer” (Final time):

-Select IOS36 and Press A, then 1 to start application.

-Select “Restore IOS15″->”Download IOS from NUS”->A to install, any button to exit.

*****This process is only necessary for FW 4.0 and 4.1*****

Load Wad Manager:

-Select IOS249->NAND Emulation Device: Disable->Source Device: Wii SD Slot->Select “IOS60patched.wad”->Install wad.

-Press the “Home” button to exit.

*************************************************

Load the cIOS installer(The only one without an icon):

-Select IOS36->”Network Installation”.  When it’s done, it’ll reboot the Wii.

Load DOP-IOS:

-Select IOS59->Press A to confirm->Press A to “Apply Sig Hash Check Patch”.  It’ll take it’s sweet time, and even look like it froze in some portions. Just let it do its work and press any button when it’s done.
“Wash, rinse, and repeat” for all of the IOS files listed below. It may seem like overkill, but I had a few issues before doing all of these ones:

IOS12
IOS13
IOS15
IOS17
IOS21
IOS31
IOS33
IOS34
IOS35
IOS37
IOS38
IOS53
IOS55
IOS56

When you’re done this long, monotonous process, press the “Home” button to return to The Homebrew Channel.

Clear everything off of the SD card, cuz you’re done! You can hold onto the Wad Manager and its wad folder, if you like, for future use installing channels/games/apps, etc.

Hey everyone, Skoot here with a nice, simple tutorial on Softmodding your Wii. This one is for all firmwares 4.2 and below.  (Note: If you currently have a firmware below 4.2, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO UPDATE.)

This covers the basics: Installing The Homebrew Channel, as well as BootMii to provide some protection against bricking your console.  This is only the beginning step in completely softmodding your console.

Here’s what you’ll need:

- A standard SD card formatted to FAT32. SDHC cards WILL NOT work (Note: if you want to back up the memory on your Wii, 520mb will be needed, so a 1GB SD card is recommended).

That’s it! Simple, huh?

Phase 1 – Preparation:
Alright, for the sake of simplicity, make sure that there is nothing else on the SD card.

-FIRMWARE 3.0-4.1: Download THIS .ZIP FILE and extract its contents to the SD card.

-FIRMWARE 4.2: Download and extract THIS .ZIP FILE to the SD card.

Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to proceed!

Phase 2 – Installing

-Put the SD card into the Wii and turn it on.

- Go to the Wii options menu, select Data Management–>Wii–>Channels–>SD Card. (Note: If your wii freezes after clicking SD Card, you’ll have to turn the Wii off and on again.)

At this point, you’ll be prompted to “load boot.dol/elf?” Click “Yes” and it’ll begin the HackMii installer.
- HackMii will run tests and, depending on your Wii, it’ll tell you whether or not you’ll be able to install to boot2. Even if it says you can’t, don’t worry.  Press “A” to continue.

-First, install “The Homebrew Channel”.
-Then, go to “BootMii”

Depending on whether you’re able to install to boot2, There are different steps to take.

If you CAN install to boot2(Best protection against bricking your system):
-Select “Prepare the SD card”.
-Select “Install BootMii as boot2″.

If you CANNOT install to boot2(No protection against bricking your system):
-Select “Install bootmii as IOS”.

That covers the basics. Make sure to clear everything off of the SD card when you’re finished, and pick up with my next tutorial, Right here.
