Okay, so you’re watching movies and listening to music on your Wii, but then your friends with 360’s and PS3 laugh at you because you can’t load files from an external hard drive. What are you to do?
Fight back by installing MPlayerCE, a media player that takes cues from many other Media Players for the Wii. Our newest version fixes some essential bugs, and adds support for your USB 2.0 devices!
v0.4
- USB 2.0 support (see docs for info)
- TTF font support (see docs for info)
- Fixed bug in radio streaming.
- DVD-Video bugs fixed (DVDs should play much more smoothly now)
- Fixes in Libdi to detect chipped Wii
- Updated to latest MPlayer revision
Also, I suggest you heed the text and browse through the readme (included in the download) for instructions on how to set-up and configure USB 2.0.

Take the best of both worlds! Throw MPlayer, and GeeXBoX into a pot, blend them together, and your product is MPlayer CE! This is a fairly complete media player, that supports DVD Playback (with DVDX), video, audio, photos, and even radio!

We could post a cool list of features here, but there is so much to list that we would fill the front page! The ReadMe is very complete, and is a must-read. To see a list of all of the features, continue reading this article past the download link.

Out of demand by users, Team Twiizers has released an update for DVDX for System Menu 3.4. Note that it does not work if you have a modchip installed, to prevent piracy.
A few months ago we released a small, hidden channel called “DVDX” which essentially allowed homebrew to read DVDs on any Wii console without requiring hardware modifications. Since that release some things that you are probably all aware of have happened: Nintendo released an update that blocks the installation of fake-signed titles like The Homebrew Channel or said DVDX installer and we published a workaround for the Homebrew Channel one day later.
However, we did neither have the time nor the intention to release a similar workaround for the DVDX installer since there certainly are better solutions to this problem and because we thought we would be able to release BootMii very soon. This was apparently not the case because we are still working on BootMii today. The only solution to get DVDX installed was to use questionable methods that are normally only used by pirates and definitely not recommended by us or, given that you were lucky, to use comex’ installer while it still worked.
There still seems to be a demand for a working installer though and I therefore decided to port our method of installing The Homebrew Channel to the DVDX installer. While doing this the “advanced” and the “patchmii” installation method had to be removed. They wouldn’t be of any use anyways since there is no sane possibility to install a hacked IOS on an updated Wii. You can therefore only use this installer if you have a Wii without hardware modifications because it will force libdi to always use the so-called DVD video mode which is not supported by many modchips. I’m afraid that you’ll have to wait for BootMii if you have a modchip without DVD support and want homebrew to be able to read your DVDs and if you did not install a hacked IOS and DVDX previously.
Please note that this only is a temporary solution that was only released due to the high demand. It will be replaced with a better solution once BootMii is available.
Just download dvdx34.zip and extract it to your SD card. You should then be able to launch the installer from the Homebrew Channel.

I would be willing to bet a lot of people discover new music by listning to the radio. You are likely to hear the tunes you like, aneven some new ones which you’ve never heard of before. Since your Wii is your multimedia center anyways, why not add a Radio to it? Scanff has created a preview version of Wii Radio: an application which can load Shoutcast streams for across the internet.
One note however: Scanff has said that this application has only been tested on NTSC Wiis. That is not to say that it doesn not necessarily work on PAL/JAP Wiis, but that it is untested.

MPlayerWii r20 modified by AgentX (r3)

Changes:
* If your file has a 2.35:1 ratio and you want to make it fit the screen, press 1. If your file has a 4:3 ratio and you want to stretch it to fit the screen, press 2. To return to default press 1 and 2 together.
* Tries to distinguish between audio files, video files and other files. If you select an audio file it will play continuously through the folder. Press B to play next file. Selecting a video will just play the individual file. Any other file will not be recognized and not play (avoiding crashes).
A patch file is included. Source is very hacky. With thanks to DCelso & Qualith for code for continuous play.
Known bugs:
* Using B to select next file is very touch and go. I think this is a problem with mplayer not freeing memory properly so I can’t fix it until I work out how to compile.
Thanks to rodries for constantly updating mplayerwii, samba improvements are much appreciated!
Download (code patch included): MediaFire
Note: Also includes the added support for DVD, SDGecko, and SDHC access.

Not long ago did we report that two teams of coders have attempted to modify the source for MPlayerWii to add more features. Well, we have two more versions to add to the list!

Our first mod comes from tipolosko, who adds DVD support. However, video DVD’s are not supported. Data DVD’s are. Note: DVDx is required in order for this version to function properly.
Download
Our second release is the second revision of DCElso and Qualith’s work. MOD R2 now contains some features that were skipped in the first release:
This new release includes support to DVD by tipolosko, SDHC, sequential and random play.
Release 2 changes:
+ Added tipolosko patch to add DVD support
+ Rebuilt with lastest versions of libogc and libfat (add support to SDHC)
+ Changed wiimote buttons functions like this:
“A” button plays a single file (as official version)
“1″ button plays all the list sequentially.
“2″ button plays the list randomly.
+ Included in this package is the source code patch to apply to official version 0.7 of mplayerwii.
Download
Looks like if Nintendo doesn’t want to add these simple features that every other next generation console has, we can trust the Wii developers to add it for us!

Two new versions of MPlayerWii have been released by coders who decided to take a crack at the source code.
The first version comes from sanderevers, who brings us a version with support for SDHC memory cards:
Download
Our second version comes from DCelso and Quality, which has been codenamed MOD R1. This version supports sequential playback and random playback. No SDHC support is implemented, but rumour has it that it is prioritized for the next release, MOD R2:
Download
As always, these two versions are not official. While they will not permanently damage, the coders for the official MPlayerWii will not provide support for these versions. I guess the approproate warning is: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
