D2E already hacked!

July 1st, 2008

Posted by king_td

We’ve heard rumors of a new unmoddable drive. Well that rumor is now slashed and dashed as the makers of the Wasabi chip managed to hack the drive making it possible to be modded. See what they have to say here

Did you hear about the new D2E drive? We’ve only got a couple of reports of those drives seen in the wild so you don’t need to worry about them yet, but they have been spotted at different places. They are the successors of D2C2 drives and the the curious may be wondering if this new drive is a reaction to Wasabi’s 9-wire patching method. There’s one way to know for sure, that is dumping the firmware and look at the build date to see if it was created before or after Wasabi diagrams :

So D2E firmware was created on the 12th of February 2008. Wasabi diagrams were released on the 19th of February… Do we really need to say more? :)

Update: Wii and GC backups are now running :)

Stay tuned!

We the community will NOT give up! Keep up the good work guys, we appreciate every bit of it

The June 16th update (v3.3) has been reported to delete Twilight Hack, however, it does not seem to do anything to the Homebew Channel yet.

Users are advised not to update until more information is known.

Because unauthorized modifications
to save files may impair game play
or the Wii console, updating to Wii
Menu version 3.3 will also check for
and automatically remove such save
files.

Q & A

It says the UPDATE removes any edited save files… can you just recopy the twilight princess hack again?

Nope, you can’t, it won’t let you copy any edited file.

Will it delete Homebrew Channel?

No, it won’t delete it.

Is Homebrew Channel still working?

Some people say yes.

Do you have an estimate on how long it may take till I could update?

Just don’t update if you don’t want to.

Well guys we won’t be FORCED to update till we want to play the next BIG game on the Wii right?

The update isn’t critical at this time.

USB storage status 1.1

May 28th, 2008

Pen Drives are possible!! Sven has put it on his blog letting us know the details.

I’ve (finally) been able to create a patch for libogc today which just got accepted and adds my usb-storage code to it - just wait for the next release or get the CVS version if you know what you are doing. Thanks again to shagkur for some miscellaneous fixes and hints to my code.
Since my last posts even more devices are working now and only a few ones are not working which I’m unable to fix because the owners either didn’t give me a usb log or because that device is just stupid and doesn’t confirm to the usb storage protocol in a *really* bad way. If you want these devices to work get me a full usb transfer log while you’re connecting your device to you computer. Just reporting that device $whatever is not working with the output of my old test applications will not help me to fix this drive, sorry.
However, I’ll first talk in this post about why someone screwed up the IOS USB driver and what evil hack fixes this and then about how to use my usb-storage code.

Say hello to the brand new Wasabi!

No revolution here, but while other teams were busy trying to duplicate our 9 wire solution, we spent countless hours testing and improving the electrical design of our chip. This is to avoid the need of installation tweaks with rare “noisy” drives… and we’re very proud of the result! We can safely say that we have created the most robust 9 wires chip on the market. Of course this new revision is 100% upgrade, pinout and feature compatible with the previous one.

The only other bonus is that it is fully compatible with the new D2C2 drive chipset (a.k.a. “Unmoddable D2C”, md5sum a60cd3d6a4949db26add1580ba1be526) that is common in Korea and started to appear in other countries in May 2008. That means that even if you bought your Wii in May 2008 or later on, you know for sure that our chip will be compatible with it. And we even added some D2C/D2C2 auto-detection mechanism to make installer’s life easier.

Soon to be released, stay tuned!

Some may say “but wait, I’m using a Homebrew Channel!”. Really? Does your Homebrew channel compare to this?

That’s right. The Official Homebrew channel has features not seen by any other coded channel. This is more of a tease video than anything, mainly because there is no release, but when it looks this good, you can’t help thinking we might see a release sooner than later.

Definitely not a hack of any kind, just odd and interesting…

From Reghardware:

“If you’re not a fan of creepy crawlies then you may want to turn your Wii off. The latest theory crawling through the gaming world is that the console actively attracts cockroaches.

The theory can be traced back to Japanese-language gaming website Barks, which claimed that the Wii gives off a cockroach-friendly frequency that attracts the pests better than four-week-old pizza.

Cockroaches aren’t known for their superior hearing abilities, mainly because they don’t have any eardrums. However, according to one online report, the little pests respond to air movements and ground vibrations, detected by hairs on the body.”
