The team behind D2SUN has announced a new interesting product which replaces the Wii DVD drive with an enclosed 2.5″ SATA HD interface and USB 2.0 port. There is also an optional 2-in-1 version with ATA HD interface and CF card slot. SUNDRIVER supports all current consoles including the latest ones with D3-2 drive and 4.2J firmware. Installed games can be selected using three different methods; either by using switch on the front panel (disc slot), from PC via USB 2.0 interface or by using a GameCube controller from Wii disc menu. Check the official site for more info.

It’s awesome that Team Twiizers has just demostrated how to hack NDSi into operational mode and display their logo in the youtube video. If you wanna know about the technics you may be disappointed- no details has been issued

Yet the hack is not available thru public , they promised to do so. So don’t worry about it. Just wait for the hacks and you may able to use extra resource , such as RAM resource from DSi

BootMii Beta 2!

May 28th, 2009

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

Yep BootMii beta 2 has been released for your Wii hacking needs, with a list of minor bug fixes as long as a Micheal Jacksons ex chimpanzees arm which would be to long to post here :P But I can how even give you a list of the best of these fixes.

Thanks to member RiPPERD for the info.

BootMii beta 2 (v0.9):

* SD card performance has been improved, decreasing the boot and the NAND backup / restore time
* backupmii accepts fragmented SD cards now, reformatting is not performed anymore. Old NAND dumps are still compatible.
* Introduced the INI variable “BOOTDELAY” to set the timeout for the auto boot feature

The Homebrew Channel v1.0.3:

* SDHC cards are working again
* SD performance has been increased again (regression was introduced in v1.0.2)
* HBC works on all system menu versions now
* Fixed rare hangs when exiting HBC

DVDX:

* Switched back to IOS < 37. While the SDHC problem for apps using DVDX has been fixed in libogc, there were also problems with USB keyboards under higher IOS versions

Installer v0.2:

* Installer now works on newer Wiis with boot2v4 (instead of rebooting at “Press 1″)
* Fixed reading of boot1/2 on Wiis with bad ECC data in that area
* BootMii as boot2 and IOS can now be uninstalled

Now that the Twilight Hack has seen it’s use and the BannerBomb exploit has been released, the legendary team behind the TP Hack has released the source code.

Will we see any new and weird hacks rise from the ashes of the TP source code? I doubt it but watch this space and we’ll find out.

BootMii Beta1

May 13th, 2009

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

Big thanks to retired admin KinG_Td for informing us of this release.
Please, please read the information below before even considering to install this beta other wise you may end up with a nice white paper weight.

We are proud to present HackMii Installer v0.1. This is one executable that can install the Homebrew Channel and DVDX on any Wii, with any System Menu version. It can be used with Comex’s BannerBomb on System Menu 4.0, or on our Twilight Hack on earlier versions, or through the Homebrew Channel or any other method to run homebrew software on your Wii.

For many people, that will be enough. For the intrepid or foolish, HackMii Installer v0.1 can install BootMii Beta 1 on your Wii, either in front of boot2 or as an IOS. We have put a lot of hard work into this software and believe it to be safe, but we have only tested it on 10 Wiis. We have written it so that it does extensive sanity checking before installing; as a result, the first beta will probably refuse to install on some Wiis (instead of running the risk of a broken install).

Ideally, we would find another 50-100 beta testers and have them test it out before releasing it to the world at large. Realistically, that doesn’t work; it’d land on gbafail in less time than it took us to compile it. Besides, we’re not trying to make this a release for “the kool kids ; we want the people out there who can help us test and improve it to try it so we can make it universally compatible and safe.

So, we’ll do it like this. We think BootMii is safe to install, but we can’t promise there are no bugs in the installer. Once you do get it installed, many features are incomplete and most users won’t even know why they bothered to risk their console. For those who like to tinker, you’ll find an easy-to-use NAND backup/restore suite, a way to autoboot the HBC, and eventually a way to run arbitrary ARM or PPC code. You will also find bugs — none of which should harm your Wii, but they might be frustrating. Help us fix them.

To be perfectly clear — anyone can use this to install the Homebrew Channel and DVDX on their Wii. Most people can safely install BootMii/IOS on their Wii, but it’s not very useful. Many people can install BootMii/boot2, but an unforeseen bug could harm your Wii.

Please do not install BootMii unless you have been following our blog for a while and know what IOS is, what boot1 and boot2 are, etc. If you’re curious, you can try anyway, but if you can’t figure out how to work this thing you should probably wait for a future beta. We really don’t want to see epic threads with “tips on installing — this thing is supposed to be self-explanatory, and if it won’t install for you, that’s a bug we need to fix.

Known issues:

* BootMii may refuse to install on some Wiis. We ran into various errors in our sanity checks on about half of the consoles we tried; we have fixed all of those bugs, but there are probably more. The installer will write out an “installer.log to SD; please email that log to beta_logs@bootmii.org so that we can add support for your Wii in the next beta.
* We wrote MINI (our low-level replacement for IOS) from scratch; the SD code has some compatibility issues. Most cards (SD and SDHC) work; some will not be recognized at all when you try to boot from them (you’ll know this by the fact that your drive slot will flash). If this happens and you have a USBGecko, please capture the output and email it to the address above.
* We intend to eventually release source code for MINI and a sample PowerPC project than uses it, but those releases are not ready yet. This is a binary only release; your patience is appreciated.

The installer is available for download from http://bootmii.org. Please report bugs at http://bugs.hackmii.com. You can discuss this release in a moderated forum on http://forum.wiibrew.org, but we will only permit posts that we deem to be constructive in our efforts to improve our code.

Thanks go out to Nuke for donating the USBGeckos we used for development, and Stan64 for donating a few to our testers.

Bannerbomb Alpha!

May 10th, 2009

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

After a month of waiting, the Bannerbomb has finally been released…….
Does it work? I can’t tell you as my Wii is already hacked to the max which makes it pointless for me to run, from what I’ve heard it runs pretty well (although I’ve heard nothing from reliable source). At the current time I’d advice people that are going to use this exploit to be cautious!!

DISCLAIMER: NES-Hacks.com will not be held liable if this exploit damages your Wii or PC and we advise that you follow the release notes!

untitled

From the release notes:

bannerbomb alpha
compatible (in theory) with 3.x-4.0

  • Get a SD card. If it has a private directory, rename it temporarily, e.g. to “privateold”. Having other saved channels on the same card will screw it up.
  • Download aad1f_v102.zip and unzip it onto the SD card.
  • Get a DOL or ELF and put it on the SD as /boot.dol or /boot.elf.
  • Press (Wii), Data Management, Channels, SD. Then insert the card. It should either pop up Load /boot.dol? or freeze.
  • If it pops up a dialog, then fill out the survey.

If it freezes, follow these diagnostics:

  •  Did you use the SD menu (4.0) or click Savedata instead of Channels? If so, then you’re dumb
  • Otherwise, try a different version. The system menu is somewhat unpredictable; while most people should be able to use version i don’t know yet, some might need another version.

Bugs:

  • If it gives you the dialog but freezes instead of loading the dol, email me[ comexk at gmail dot com]. Tell me where it froze and whether or not the slot light is on.
  • You might also try removing the disc.
  • If you press “no” when it asks you whether you want to load a dol then it might freeze.
  • It is possible to press the back button “under” the dialog. Make sure you don’t do that.

FAQ:

  • You can’t actually install the homebrew channel or anything– the bootmii installer will be able to do that soon, I hope. for god’s sake don’t use downgrade guides they’re made of fail
  • There isn’t a “4.0 version” or a “3.2 version”– you should use aad1f.zip no matter what version of the menu you have. Try the other versions only if aad1f doesn’t work.

Other stuff:

  • Please don’t copy/hotlink/whatever, just link here. Thanks.
  • Don’t use this for warez, pretty please :|

Another Admin Retires

May 8th, 2009

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

Earlier today krazywhiteguy310 announced he is stepping down as an admin and passing on the position, don’t worry he’s not leavin us altogether as he will still be around but only as a Moderator.
So why is he giving up his position and what is his plans for the future ? Well he’s joining the U.S. Air Force in a smart move to further his career and to earn a good wage. (only so he can get a 50″ TV like me….. only joking :P )

Say good luck & farewell to KWG here

As KWG steps down to a Moderator, I (The_Wii_Nes_Boy) will be taking his place as Admin along side nedthehead.
“Will there be any changes?” I here you ask….. Well maybe one or two but most likely only small things, as I have more time on my hands the front page will hopefully be kept up-to-date and be updated as soon as Wii scene news is release. As of the moment I have back-dated the front pages to the end of March.
If members have any suggestions which they think may benefit the site, then please leave feedback.

Krazy my good friend I bid you farewell as an Admin and I wish you all the best for the future!

What can we say? We are all human, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of posts you may have witnessed in the past little while. For whatever reasons, the Wii scene has picked up at a time that is difficult for some to manage.

All things considered, consider this a heartfelt apology from the NES-Hacks team, and expect a plethora of goodies and updates.

Once again, we’re sorry, but the best is yet to come! Stay tuned!

BootMii Update

April 16th, 2009

Posted by The_Wii_Nes_Boy

Im sure you guys out there are all wondering whats the deal with BootMii “any word on it?” Right? Well thats the case here as Bushing as posted an update on HackMii about BootMii.

Here it is straight from the horse.

I can hardly blame him; the only reason any of us do what we do is because we find it fun, so when it stops being fun — what’s the point? He’s still around, if you know where to look, and I hope that once we release BootMii, we’ll see some neat projects emerge from it.

Yes, BootMii is still alive; I still can’t promise a release date, but most of the code has been written and we’re now to the point of testing it out and adding some polish. It’s been installed on about 12 Wiis so far and nobody’s been bricked; I hope that we can release a “public beta” within the next couple of weeks. (In this case, “public beta” will mean “we’ve tested this out quite a bit and are fairly confident that you won’t regret trying it, but not everything is finished and we can’t make too many promises). I would expect those of you who have older Wiis (i.e. those who have a vulnerable boot1) to have an easier time installing it, but we intend to eventually add support for as many of your Wiis as possible.

No one wants to see such a valued memeber of the community bow out, but unfortunately, drama being what it is, we have lost an amazing member of the Wii scene. (In advance, we apologize for the long post, but all of the information is relative and important)

In the shadows over the past little while, there have been some feuds between the Wii Developers and some users. As reluctant as I am to bring any personal issues into this matter, it is impossible to avoid such a thing when it has escalated this far. So in this case, a quick note: we at NES-Hacks have nothing against any websites, or parties mentioned. Anybody caught disrespecting anyone involved will face immediate punishment. Remember, if you choose to attack, attack someone’s platform, not themselves.

Recently, Brakken, the adminstrator of fellow hacking site TehSkeen, created a post to his site which essentially poked fun at, and ridiculed Marcan (remember, we have nothing against Brakken, and it will stay that way). To give equal sides weight in this argument, we will quote you some reasons Brakken gave as to why he made this statement:

So, you’ve read this far and might be wondering what are my motivations at writing this? Well, it’s over recent events concerning blog posts Marcan has made attacking another very talented and well respected developer Waninkoko. Waninkoko is one of the people who have used the open source or freely available code and information Marcan has helped contribute to the scene for purposes Marcan doesn’t like.

Now, Marcan has sets his eyes on the developers of DevKitPro and LibOGC. He claims the tools are flawed and plans to make his own. This is fine, but the way he is treating the two main developers who created these tools for free and out of their own spare time is arrogant to say the least. If it wasn’t for them there would be little to none homebrew for the Wii. So why has Marcan set out to shut them down?

It’s simple. He’s grown a god complex and is a total control freak that flies off the handle at every little thing. Due to the respect he has received, but does not deserve he has followers who abide by his biddings. So when Marcan throws a temper tantrum his followers follow suit. This is very counterproductive and is tearing the scene apart.

Marcan, grow up! I know you’re only 18 and have a lot to learn, but you aren’t going to last that long in this scene if you start tearing away at its foundation. You can’t do it all by yourself. You can’t control others. You are not better than anyone else no matter what you’ve done. The way you treat people is going to push you into a corner until you can’t move and you’re going to bring your loyal followers down with you.

Needless to say, Marcan felt this post needed to be adressed, so posted a reply in the same thread in which that post was made:

I did not drive nuke out of the “scene”; his reasons for leaving were based on his own personal guesses, beliefs, and extrapolations about some of my ideas, and at no time did he ask for a proper explanation or allow me any sort of clarification or explanation. I do not specifically blame him for this action, because there’s more to the story than this, but the other parts are none of your business. He made his own story up and then left because of it.

This kind of crap and drama, however, sure has driven me out of the “scene”. Brakken, congratulations, you have succeeded in providing the last drop. I will not attempt to refute any other of the claims made on this thread, because doing so would be completely and utterly futile given that the majority of the people involved will obviously do anything and believe anything that makes me wrong or the “bad guy”; besides, we’ve been over all this stuff many times now, so if someone wants to investigate the “scene”, they can, and they can come to their own conclusions. I’ll skip a long rant about brakken and just say that brakken’s journalism isn’t even remotely close to rigorous.

Suffice it to say, I’ve had enough, I’m out, and I will not be coming back. Happy easter.

There you have it folks. Unfortunately, a great Wii Developer has left us. If I can say my piece right here, I think that as a developer, Marcan made a bad choice as to completely leave the scene due to one comment from one site (again, nothing against Brakken or TehSkeen). As far as our site goes, we’ve always supported Marcan, and given his developments the coverage that they deserve.

Marcan, if you are reading this, we want you back!

And a final note to our followers: we will post links to both posts in their entirety after the article. We suggest you read both posts before forming an opinion, and if you choose to post on the matter, we ask you show Brakken and his site the full respect they deserve.

Brakken’s Original Post
