Isn’t WiFi great? If you’ve got a working wireless connection hooked up to your Wii and have yourselves a memory card, you’re all set!

The Homebrew Browser is a revolutionary new program that allows you to download Homebrew straight from the internet onto your Wii. No more taking out of SD Cards and copying over files. The application features a list of features, such as automatic updating to a newer Browser version, deletion of apps, and it’s even able to update your Homebrew apps once a new version is released!

How it works:

  1. The Homebrew Browser (HBB) contacts main server to receive a listing of the current homebrew applications. The list contains the different homebrew application names, image file sizes, boot file sizes and whether it is a dol or elf file.
  2. HBB checks to see if the user has the latest image files (stored in /temp)for all homebrew listed. If the image is out of date or missing, it downloads the image file.
  3. Once in HBB and when selecting a game to install, it downloads the icon.png, meta.xml and boot.dol/elf files from the server.

Get Gecko OS as a channel!

June 27th, 2008

Posted by nedthehead

One of the big reasons people despised firmware 3.3 was because it cut out the Twilight Hack and blocked Trucha Signed discs. Well, earlier this week we got ourselves a new Twilight Hack, but we still needed a way to run our Trucha discs on 3.3.

Fear no more, because we now have a BETA release of Gecko OS. Now as an official BETA, you can now run your games region free. Online has been tested and working too!

This is the first public beta to allow people to try out WiiRD (Wii Remote Debugger). It also has a new Gecko Region Free engine which will boot nearly all games, even from the homebrew channel.

SD card features and USB Gecko client commands are disabled in the version as they are unfinished but I wanted to release a version of WiiRD / GeckoRF engine due to large amount of requests and the fact Gecko RF 1.5 had too many bugs :)

The package comes as a app which can be launched with the homebrew channel, also a DOL file is included if you want to make trucha based DVDs or custom channels

And what is this WiiRD you’ve been hearing about?

WiiRD is a game hackers dream app, with a large number of cool tools you can use. The official website for it is http://wiird.l0nk.org/wp/ and will also be posted and supported at http://www.usbgecko.com/forums

Documentation for WiiRD including the new cheat code type technical documentation is always included in the WiiRD archive download file.

Included in the download is a file that can be launched from the Homebrew Channel, or a WAD you can install to the Wii main menu. You don’t need both. Choose whichever is more convenient to you.

Wii Web Server V0.7

June 24th, 2008

Posted by nedthehead

By now you know of FTPii, which allows you to transfer files from your PC to your Wii and vice versa. But what if you could now set-up a web server from your Wii that could be accessed over Wifi?

Well now you can. With the latest release of Wii Web Server, you can load a wide array of file types of any size! This means you can store files (.exe’s, webpages, pictures) on your Wii and access them from anywhere where you can access your Wii’s wireless signal.

Boot using normal methods *cough* HBC *cough*. Once running, will run itself. To quit, type “//quit” at the end of the web-address, so - “192.168.0.X//quit”, will now return to HBC

Place your html files in /data/web/ on the root of your sd card, must be inserted before the app is loaded. Use data.zip for demo files.

There is no directory listing and your homepage must be called “index.html”
