For those of you familiar with the original Xbox Media Center, you will definitely love this news. Thanks to NES-Hacks member YoYoBallz for the heads up on the news. This application will function like a media center playing videos like a media center should do.

Directly from the ReadMe…

This is a crude prototype of GeeXboX port for WII. It is based on gc-linux team’s wii-linux-PoC-0.4 and a recent devel version of GeeXboX.

Most functions of WII, including bluetooth/wiimote, DVD, wireless, LAN etc., are not supported by this version, due to limitations of the linux kernel. There are terrible bugs too, which you won’t be able to miss. So please regard this rather as a demo. But expect huge improvements in next release, when gc-linux team’s latest linux port becomes available.

TH

/SLASH…. Take that Big N, Team Twiizers has released a beta version of the Twilight Hack for Firmware 3.3! We can confirm that it is up and working just as it did before! Great job guys!

Per Marcan on the HackMii site:

This new version of the Twilight Hack is compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu, using the workarounds explained in previous posts. Thanks to everyone on IRC who contributed to the search for the bugs, and to tmbinc and tehpola for finding the two bugs that make this possible.

Changelog for this release:

* The Twilight Hack is now compatible with version 3.3 of the Wii System Menu.
* Improvements in video configuration. The entire console should now be visible in all video modes, and scrolling has been improved.
* For the USA version, the two variants of the hack have been packed into one save file. Just select the save slot that corresponds to your version of Twilight Pricess when you start the game.
* New savegame icons by drmr. The new icons now show which region that version of the hack is for.
* This version now tries to load boot.dol, and falls back to boot.elf if boot.dol is not found.
* ???????
* Many, many bug fixes.

Download it here. Head over to Wiibrew for more information and updates. See the included README for installation and usage instructions.

Enjoy!

Some of our valuable members here at NES-Hacks have already updated to 3.3 and confirm that it works. One of our member is reporting that the PAL version of the Hack does not like Homebrew Channel v8, however, Homebrew Channel v7 works and you can upgrade to v8 after it’s installed.

FTPii 0.0.6 released

June 19th, 2008

Posted by king_td

http://www.nes-hacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/ftpii.png

FTPii is an FTP server for the Wii, giving people easy access to their SD cards without having to eject it from the Wii itself.

HOW TO USE:
The best way to get a feel for ftpii is to install it, using itself. When you download ftpii, use wiiload (with the Homebrew Channel) to start it up. When the network has initialised, use your favourite FTP client to connect to you wii. You can enter anything for a user name and password right now. Once you have logged in, navigate to the apps folder on your SD card, and upload the ftpii directory (containing boot.elf, meta.xml and icon.png) here.

Once you are done altering files, close the connection from your client, then push the A button on Wiimote #1. This will bring you out of ftpii and back to the HBC application selection menu. ftpii will now be in the list to run again without the need of Wiiload.

Redbird over at elotrolado.net has released another Wii NAND dumper, which dumps the contents of your Wii’s flash to your front SD card. This differs from previous NAND dumpers, as it is not decrypting the file system, only creating a 512 MB “wiiflash.img” file. This could be used along with an NAND programmer and an Infectus chip to restore your Wii to a previous state.

From the translated release notes:

You wonder why another NAND dumper was created when they already exist. These are my reasons:

1. The Waninkoko of SD does not work on the front. In addition, I was for me from about 300MB and then writes very slow, almost no progress, takes minutes to download another MB.
2. The Nuvalo of SD writes in the front, but no work for me since the Homebrew Channel doesn’t support it. In addition, makes me nervous to be counting the bytes missing, filling the entire screen …
3. I wanted to learn something simple and useful to me outside.

Why use YaWnD:

1. SD wrote in the front.
2. Use Wiimote.
3. It can be used from the Homebrew Channel (HBC) and returns to it so clean.
4. It uses the latest release of devkitPPC r15 and bookstores libOGC, which should be compatible with future updates of HBC.
5. Reports of what it does fill the screen without too.

Above all, let me take this opportunity to thank the work of developers Homebrew Channel, DevkitPPC and libOGC in which I have based, with special mention of Marcan, who occasionally goes by here and has my full respect. And, of course, not forgetting Nuvalo, which was the one who hung the source that helped me to see how to access the NAND easily.

And now the warning: the program is provided “as is” without any express or implied warranty. The user uses it on his own responsibility and only for lawful purposes of obtaining a backup of the data contained in the flash of their Wii.
