WiiDoom v0.4.2

November 19th, 2008

Posted by nedthehead

The long awaited update is now here! Steve Corey has dropped a bomb on us with his release of the newest version of WiiDoom! One of the previous attempted updates (many of which were released “broken”) featured a .WAD selector that carried into today’s version. This particular port of the Doom Engine supports virtually every Doom .wad, but remember, asking for .wads is illegal, and we do not condone piracy.

That being said:

– Version 0.4 –
[NEW] Added WAD loader
[FIXED] Finale cast can now be advanced through
[FIXED] Config file saving/loading works
[CHANGE] Classis stairbuilding enabled by default
[NEW] Added IR crosshair option in general settings menu
[CHANGE] Disabled IR crosshair by default
[FIXED] Fixed vertical resolution to fit on the screen better
[FIXED] Fixed Twilight Hack Input bug
[CHANGE] Moved messages output location to original spot
[FIXED] “Reset to defaults” now works

And maybe the best feature of all: it now works with the Homebrew Channel!

EA has pretty much leaked that they are developing their own game similar to Wii Fit, aptly named EA Active. Some details have begun to pour out regarding the game:

The game will support, but not require, the Balance Board, and will include two leg straps for the Wiimote and Nunchuk, as well as a resistance band. EA’s Peter Moore described the game’s focus as a “Western cardiovascular approach,” contrasting with the stretching and balance exercises in Wii Fit. Speaking to GameSpot, Moore suggested that ACTIVE will become a “product line,” which we already knew because it is “a game published by EA.”

Players will also be able to create “playlists” of exercises, a feature conspicuously missing from Wii Fit. In addition, Active will provide real-time feedback on exercise performance, including calories burned and such.

Not sure how well the leg straps for the Wiimote/Nunchuck will be implemented, but EA is taking a step in the right direction to support one of Nintendo’s own devices. Needless to say, Nintendo has not said anything about selling the Balance Boards individually.

Thank NES-Hacks member IGottaWii for the news..

Many of you already heard that Animal Crossing Wii will be coming to the Wii but this is something that many of us did NOT expect… We played Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, Mr. Dream’s Punch-Out!!, Super Punch-Out!.. but it stopped there, we had nothing for the N64, nothing for the Gamecube.. now it will come back with a vengeance.. With the combination of the Balance Board and Nunchuck/Wiimote, the feeling that youre right there fighting King Hippo and Bald Bull would feel like a reality..

Not very creative? Having trouble trying to create a stage that will impress your friends and enemies alike? Well, never fear, IGN is here… okay, that was terrible!
IGN has set up a webpage allowing users to upload and download Custom Stages to your SD card. From there, you can transfer them to your Super Smash Bros. Brawl game. Many stages have already been uploaded, including a few remakes of stages from the original Super Smash Bros for N64. And if you’ve created a stage you thought would be fun for others, you can upload it and have it rated.

Old news for Japan users, but Nintendo has released it’s first batch of downloadable games for the Wii. Accessed via the Shop Channel, these games are downloaded as seperate channels, with varying degrees of support. The games vary in price between 500-1500 Wii Points. Nintendo also promises to keep us updated with downloadable content for nearly every game. Also worth noting: These channels do not affect anything on your Wii whatsoever. Your modchip/Twilight Hack is safe.
